Quinta da Costa das Aguaneiras red 2018 (€25.00) is a wine where Touriga Nacional is embraced by Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca and a complex blend of native grape varieties, planted in old vineyards. Fermented in granite presses and aged in new French oak barrels for a year, it is a full and powerful wine. A tribute to the typical reds of the Douro: full-bodied, with ripe fruit, complexity, structure and the ability to evolve. A red with a bright, intense and deep red colour. On the nose, it is quite fruity, intense and complex. Aromas of ripe red fruit stand out – such as blackberry, plum and light cassis – and notes of dried fruit and vanilla, from its aging in wood. On the palate, the first sensation is of freshness, full of fruit and balance. With soft tannins, it has good acidity and an excellent structure, which give it a good, fresh and long finish. Promises longevity.
Launched for the first time last year, the grapes for Vinha do Sobreiro red 2016 (€25.00) come from Quinta de Pias, in Celeirós, in the Pinhão valley, sub-region of Cima Corgo. The vines are between 30 and 40 years old and are planted at an altitude of around 400 metres with a northern exposure. Vinified in a lagar and aged in new French oak barrels for 12 months, this is a red wine with ripe, almost jammy fruit, but with great freshness, which enhances the delicacy and beauty of Touriga Franca, the grape variety that gives it a floral and fruity side, balanced with the structure of the Tinto Cão variety and the rusticity of Tinta Roriz. In the glass, it has a bright red colour and a fine, elegant, floral and fruity nose. The wood is noticeable, very discreet and well integrated, which contributes to its complexity and aromatic enrichment. On the palate, this red wine is balanced and full of aromatic notes, reminiscent of ripe red fruits. It has a lively but balanced acidity, soft tannins and a very long and very pleasant finish. An elegant and complex red wine, which is a good companion to fatty fish and meat dishes, from white to red.
