THE ORIGIN OF A NAME, A COMPANY AND OUR WINES

Lavradores de Feitoria is a very unique project that was founded in 2000, the result of the union of 15 farmers, owners of 18 estates located among the best terroirs in the Douro region. Thus was born Lavradores de Feitoria (LF), a wine company with 20 estates strategically spread across the three sub-regions – Baixo Corgo, Cima Corgo and Douro Superior – and operates in the market based on an innovative business model, creating wines based on a logic of social, economic and environmental sustainability. The company recently entered the wine tourism sector, and its project has already been recognized by the “ Best Of Wine Tourism 2023 ”.

For over 20 years, Lavradores de Feitoria has positioned itself in the Portuguese market as a wine producing project, originating from one of the Portuguese regions with the greatest winemaking tradition. In addition to the production aspect, since April 1, 2022, the Douro company has opened its doors to a new aspect of its project, expanding its business to wine tourism.

This is a space that prioritizes both personalized visits, from Monday to Friday, from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, and regular visits, which also take place from Monday to Friday, at 10:30 am and 3:30 pm.

In the case of private visits and the 'Winemaker for a Day' experience, there is flexibility in terms of schedule, always depending on availability and prior appointment is mandatory.

Although the wine tourism initiative is just over 2 years old, it has certainly proven to be a real success. Its unique features and the way it manages to make visitors aware of the work carried out at Lavradores de Feitoria have culminated in one of the most important distinctions in wine tourism. The Great Wine Capitals platform awarded the “ Best Of Wine Tourism 2023 ” seal in the category of best wine tourism service, reinforcing the natural visibility of the brand’s options, as well as its positioning.

This recognition is both a source of pride for the company from the north of Portugal and an important lever for promoting the Douro wine region, a region where tradition and culture are naturally linked to wine, assuming itself as the oldest demarcated and regulated wine region in the world, where wine tourism presents itself here and now as the best instrument/activity for communicating the king of the region.

The transversality of wine tourism, which has wine as its communication anchor, is not limited to itself, but rather fosters an understanding of a region with knowledge, flavours and culture that goes beyond wines. We therefore talk about gastronomy, built heritage, evolutionary landscapes protected and recognised by UNESCO and folklore that dates back centuries of toil.

It is the value of this ancient and centuries-old knowledge that sets the Douro region apart from other wine tourism destinations. Thanks to the complex flavours that the Douro wine region offers to all visitors, the Lavradores de Feitoria wine tourism project has enjoyed a large and growing following among the public. Driven by curiosity, many people come here and are overcome by a sense of admiration, amazement and surprise.

HISTORY OF THE NAME

The Marquis of Pombal, founder of the Douro Demarcated Region, selected the best wines from this region, offering them to the most demanding wine lovers in the country and around the world. These were known as “vinhos de feitoria” and earned well-deserved respect for their extreme quality.

At the turn of the century, farmers from the Douro came together to make a dream came true that was as simple as it was ambitious: to bring together “farmers” to make “Feitoria” wines. This is how Lavradores de Feitoria was born, bringing together different knowledge and experiences, both ancestral and contemporary, from viticulture to marketing.
