The results of the first stage of the 36th edition of the International Wine Challenge are now known and the maximum score awarded to Douro wines was 90 points and a Silver Medal. The 'Lavradores de Feitoria red 2017' was one of the “laureates”. 212 wine experts from 23 countries took part in this challenge. Portugal received 181 medals, recognition that earned our country a rise to fifth place in the table, after France, Australia, Spain and Italy.
This is not the first time that 'Lavradores de Feitoria red' has taken to the stage of this most important international wine competition: in 2014 it was the turn of the 2012 harvest. A very accessible wine, in terms of price (recommended RRP of €4.40) and its strong distribution in the market.
Made from grapes of the native varieties Touriga Franca (30%), Tinta Roriz (30%), Touriga Nacional (10%) and Tinta Barroca (10%), from vines aged between 25 and 30 years, 'Lavradores de Feitoria red 2017' is a fruity, fresh and elegant wine, perfect for drinking alone or with company at the table, this winter.
After the harvest, the wines were fermented and aged in stainless steel vats. This wine has a bright, bright red colour. The nose is extremely fruity, with highlights of ripe black plums and cherries, characteristics that are inseparable from the typical wines produced in the Douro region. On the palate, it is fresh and fruity, with smooth and elegant tannins. It is velvety and has a balanced acidity. The finish of this red wine from the 2017 harvest is long and very tasty. It pairs well with cheeses and game dishes, and is the perfect companion for a solo moment.
